Playing in The Earlier Stages of a Poker tournament

By Michael Stewards, John Kusinski

Trying to find the best type of poker game room for your nights of poker playing can be a little difficult. There are a few types, each optimized for specific types of poker and that creates the whole atmosphere while you are playing poker. These poker game tables include: folding, reversible top, full furniture and pedestal tables. but if you are playing in the beginning of a poker tournament is another major fact. Playing in the earlier stages of a poker tournament you will want to keep a few things in mind. One is what % of my stack am I willing to risk, and the second is how much will my opponent call. When playing early in a poker tournament you will really want to select carefully the hands you play.

Playing every hand aggressively at the beginning of a poker tournament can really cost you in the end, and you will not be able to make a progression through the poker tournament. So, the best and easiest modality to get through and progress is to play tight. Not overly tight where you are playing just big pairs or AK, but rather playing hands in position that can catch the flop, and if not you can get away cheap. When you can find a nice range of hands to play in position in the beginning of the poker tournament most of the time you can see free playing cards with draws and possibly take down a big pot without being committed much to it.

Of course, playing big pairs in the beginning of the poker tournaments and collecting the most for them is ideal for poker tournament success, but you'll have to increase you range of hands up. There are very few players today who are just playing big pairs and want to win poker tournaments. There is a lot of difference in poker tournaments and lower on that difference you can play in position and pick up pots without having the cards. When you can usually play pots and collect the two streets of equity you will be better for it, and your stack of chips will grow constantly. Getting stuck in a pot with a small hand early in the poker tournament is something you want to always avoid.

If you are what is considered stuck in a pot with top pair and no kicker, or a drawing hand that is susceptible to better drawing hands you should change gear, and tone down your play to that of a tighter player. You really want to play tight when the blinds are low winning the most for your hands and losing the least with them. If you can find a common median of starting hands you can cut down your difference. Small pot hands in the beginning of the poker tournaments are hands you want to stay away from unless the pot has a bunch of limpers in front of you already, and you are getting the best price to play it.

So, in the beginning of the poker tournaments you want to play pots in position with playing cards that can hit a flop big or simply fold your hands and wait for a better position. To collect two streets of equity you will need to be playing some hands. So, make sure when you are getting your cash in the beginning of the poker tournaments because you'll never really want to bust a poker tournament in the beginning.
