Convenient Main Ten Online Gambling Tournament Guidance

By Franklin Yadon

Online poker has been sweeping the world and along with it a new enthusiasm for tournaments. At any given time, in any country, there is a tournament going on and people winning money. If this sounds like something you'd like some action in, these winning top 10 poker tournament tips are a must read.

Tip #1 - Early in the game is when you want to play tight. The blinds are low, so people throw away money, making mistake after mistake. But by playing tight, being selective about the hands you play, you watch the flies drop off as you move onto the next level.

Tip #2 - As the game progresses, then you pick up your pace and start playing more hands. You still need to be selective, but you also need to gamble a bit. Winners are gamblers, winners are active, and if you want to win, you have to play hands before the rising blinds get you.

Consistent bets - In order to keep opponents guessing the strength of your hand, you have to be consistent with your bets. That means when you raise, always raise the same amount each time. If you are always betting the same amount, the others have no idea if you have a good hand or not, and you worry them.

Tip #4 - Use your bluffs wisely. If you get over zealous, someone is going to call you on it. You have to keep it believable and you cannot try to bluff more than two opponents at once. Remember, there is always that one person that will call you on it to "keep you honest", so use bluffs correctly.

Tip #5 - You may be a great ring game player, but tournaments are a whole other strategy. When you play ring games, the goal is to walk away with the most chips. When you play a tournament, the goal is to walk away with all the chips. Keep that in mind and switch up your strategy when playing in tournaments.

Gap concept - Someone opening the betting only needs a semi-strong hand, someone calling that bet needs a stronger hand. This concept is considered the Gap concept, and it is an important one to keep in mind when you want to steal blinds. If you open betting, everyone else needs a stronger hand than you to call. However, if another opens the betting, it is you that will need the stronger hand.

Tip seven - Over-valuing suited cards is mistake many beginners make. You'll likely be dealt suited cards about a quarter of the time, but there is only a small chance that you'll actually make a flush. And even if you make a flush, you then have to worry about whether a bigger flush will beat you.

Over-valuing small pairs - Everyone has seen it, the underdog throwing a pair of fours and winning the large pot. But realistically, this doesn't happen often in tournaments, and over valuing your small pocket pairs is a big mistake. If you are going to raise or go all in, do not stake your seat at the table on this type of hand.

Tip #9 - Pay close attention to those blinds. At the start, you'll be playing tight and holding onto your chips while others make mistakes and bet unwisely. As the blinds begin to rise, you'll need to start being more active, taking chances and gambling, otherwise the blinds will eat all your chips up.

Fit or fold - It is a good rule of thumb to judge your cards by the fit or fold criteria. If the flop fits your hand, meaning it improves it or provides you with a good draw to improve on, then you keep going. If however it doesn't help your hand and there is a bet on the table, you should fold. However, if your hand is good standing alone, then keep it.

When it comes to a tournament, you need to survive. One mistake can cost you your seat at the table. No matter where your skills lay, every one of the top 10 poker tournament tips applies In order to move from table to table, right up to the winner's seat.
