Oklahoma Gin Rummy Rules - A Game of Skill for Two To Four Players

By Jack Hobson

Oklahoma Gin Rummy is a draw and discards game similar to the original game of Rummy. It's becoming a very famous version of Gin Rummy but a bit more stimulative, as you will find out from the rules of the game. This game of skill needs a normal deck of fifty-two playing playing cards and has two to four Oklahoma Gin Rummy players.

With rules that are quite similar to Gin Rummy, Oklahoma Gin Rummy Rules requires 10 playing cards for everytwo players. With 3 or four players, seven playing cards are dealt to every Oklahoma Gin Rummy player. Like the original Gin Rummy, the purpose of Oklahoma Gin Rummy is to get rid of all your playing cards before your opponents. you can do this by making melded hands of runs or sets. Sets have 3 or four playing cards of the same numerical value while runs contain three or four playing cards of consecutive numbers from the same suit.

The game starts with a player drawing a playing card from the stick, and he can choose to use this card to improve his hand or place it in the discard pile. If the player keeps the card, he must discard a playing card from his hand. The next Oklahoma Gin Rummy player then wants to draw from the stick or the discard pile. In Oklahoma Gin Rummy rules, Aces have a value of one point while face playing cards carry 10 points for each one. The rest of the playing cards carry their numerical face values. There are 3 ways to win a round in Oklahoma Rummy Rules. These are known as "Gin," "Knock" and "Undercut" and we will look at details for every of these success moves. The winner is the player who collects the maximum number of points in these multiple rounds' game.

Gin: When a Oklahoma Gin Rummy player makes melds with all the cards in his hands and puts the last left-over playing card in the discard pile, he must immediately put face up all of his playing cards on the table and call "GIN." After a player declares, "GIN," the other players may put any melds that they have built on the table and the value of idle playing cards in their hands is used to calculate the deadwood count. Loosing players gain penalty points that are equivalent to double the value of their deadwood count and the player who declares, "GIN" earns twenty five points.

Knock: A player who melds all of his playing cards with the value of the unused or idle card being equal to or less than the face value of the opening playing card wins the round by "KNOCK."

After "KNOCK" is declared, all loosing Oklahoma Gin Rummy players must put their melds on the table and adds playing cards to match the melds of the player who announced: KNOCK. By doing this, defeated Oklahoma Gin Rummy player reduce the margin of penalty points if you compare it to GIN. The winner gains 10 points for Knock and defeated Oklahoma Gin Rummy players get penalty points that are valued at their deadwood count minus the Knocker's deadwood count. If a defending player has a deadwood count lower than or equal to that of the knocking Oklahoma Gin Rummy player, he declares an Undercut and receives twenty points. The other Oklahoma Gin Rummy players get their own deadwood count minus the winners deadwood count as penalty points. The game is stimulative and Oklahoma Gin Rummy players must pay close attention to the Oklahoma Gin Rummy rules to avoid missing a win.
