Choosing Between Omaha Poker Vs Texas Holdem

By Denna Gerache

Online poker is one of the most popular games to play on the internet. Texas Holdem is one of the most played of the games played in both real life and online casinos. However it is not the only type of game available. This article will look at Omaha Poker vs Texas Holdem.

The exact origin of Holdem is unknown, although recent history suggests that it was first established around the 1900s. Robstown is credited as its birthplace. It was first played by native gamblers who brought it to a Las Vegas casino in 1967, although it was some years before it became accepted. Its popularity surged in the 2000s when it was featured on television and became the game of choice for online players, replacing seven card stud in the affections of gamblers.

It was not until 1967 that Hold em was introduced to casinos in Las Vegas. Even then for a long time it was only offered in the Golden Nugget casino and was not highly regarded. In the early 2000s tournaments started to get featured on television. This lead to more interest in the game and since then it has become the online game of choice.

However just because a game is popular does not necessarily mean it is better. People are often put off by Omaha because on the surface it seems more complicated. It should be noted though that it has several advantages over Hold Em.

It is important to remember that you still only use two cards in your hand with High Low. A further massive difference is that in the most common form of the game you can win with the lowest hand as well as the highest. This can often confuse people at first.

It is also generally felt that in the long term it is easier to get more pots than in the Hold Em variation. However one problem is that the margin of error is thinner and this can mean heavier losses. But this can be countered with effective strategy. This is why in High Low the hands are often known colloquially as the nuts, as showdowns can lead to big losses.

When looking at Omaha Poker vs Holdem, some people may feel that the former is more complicated at first and may prefer to stick with what they know. However with experience and strategy you soon learn that High Low is less random and you can earn more from smaller bankrolls than you would from Holdem. Look online for video demonstrations to show you how to play and get the most from both games.
