What Is Online Gaming

By Thomas Barrett

Parents! Have you ever wondered what your children mean when they say "RPG" or "MMORPG"? If so, you are not alone. "RPG" and "MMORPG" are acronyms for some online games and this article will introduce you to them, so you can be more comfortable about this concept.

You are on the right track if you thought about the Internet when you heard those terms. "MMORPG" and "RPG" terms are exclusive to online environment and stand for "massively multiple online role playing gaming" and "role playing games". The online gaming is basically an opportunity to play interactive games on the Internet with people all over the world. Today's generation is practically fascinated with online gaming!

The online games are fun and exciting. The virtual world where the games take place is fascinating and filled with awesome graphics and lively music. There are thousands of games available, some of them are free to play, and others need paid membership. Some are extremely easy, other are very complicated. Online fantasy games are available to anyone with a computer and Internet connection, therefore they are becoming extremely popular. The best part is that you can play with people from all over the world. Some games have millions of registered users!

The virtual reality gaming is very addictive. These types of games require an extensive amount of time spent online since players assume the role of a game character in play. Players work hard to build up an inventory of weapons or skills, none of which can be accomplished in a period of thirty minutes or less. They then go on to interact with other characters which extend game time even longer (if it even stops). Depending on the complexity of the game, any one person could spend at least six months at a game and having access to thousands of other players simultaneously doesn't exactly make them easy to walk away from.

Although the role playing games encourage strategic thinking and are good for children brain training, you, as parents, may not be comfortable with the amount of time that your kids consume with playing these kinds of games.

My best advice to you is to learn about these games along with your child and play together. It can be so much fun!
