Battlestar Galactica's Past In The Television World

By Eric Z. Beasley

Areas like the United Kingdom were permitted to view the debut of Battlestar Galactica in 2004, whereas other countries such as the United States and Canada did not see it until 2005. "33" was the first episode that won a 2005 Hugo Award for Dramatic Presentation in Short Form being the subsequent for creator Ronald Moore to receive in his career. The series Battlestar Galactica was also incorporated in the winners of the 65th Annual Peabody Awards in 2006.

Battlestar Galactica writers begun a strike in 2007 till 2008 called the Writers Guild of America strike, which was extensively revealed and written about. The mini webisode series that linked both the third and second season of Battlestar Galactica named Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance was the basis for the Writers Guild strike who wanted this show to halt production.

Throughout the beginning of the third season, this debate would stay an issue. Battlestar Galactica was also together with other shows such as Heroes and Lost in this hot discussion. The series gains most of its income downloads bought via ITunes, and also gains high DVD sales as opposed to gaining high ratings. "New media" revenues was wanted by the writing in order to be considered on the Nielsen ratings system, which normally did not consider shows such as Battlestar Galactica because of the heavily shifted times that the series has been through.

The strike did pose a delay in the production of the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica, but this did not stop the show from finally concluding on March 20, 2009. All Battlestar Galactica blogs and websites were left alone during the strike, as the creator did not feel it would be right to continue to communicate with fans this way. Soon after the strike ended, the Battlestar Galactica website and blog website was back up and running.

The Sci Fi channel revealed in April 2006 that since Battlestar Galactica was such a success that the original creators would be producing a miniseries similar to it named Caprica with 24 screenwriter and Universal Television Studio. The series is focused on the Cylons, a race that discovered that their main foe and enemy also worships the same monotheistic God as they do, placed in a time 58 years away from the time of Battlestar Galactica. Since the beginning of the second season, the intial creators have considered making this miniseries a reality.
