Try To Ask Yourself, Will You Be The Poker Fish Or Shark At The Table?

By Phuong McBrady

In truth it doesn't take long at the table to know who is a big fish and who should be swimming in the shallow end. At some point you will still ask yourself are you a poker fish or shark. If you are unsure then beware of blood in the water it may be your own.

Luck and skill are both factors in making a mark at the poker table. Drawing poorly will make anyone want to weep. However the real players will make any hand a good one. Bluffing and raising like the cards are there can change the game if you do it right. Taking the time to read the opponents and choosing who and when to strike will save the bank and win the day.

Sharks need to be cold and calculating. Showing emotion only when the game is done. The newbies tend to act and react to each card played showing signs of the hand. Tells as they are commonly known. It is a dead give away every time and then it becomes time for the real predators to feast. A relaxed attitude and a rigid appearance will keep you in your skin and give the you the edge.

Finding out if you are a big one or a small fry takes awareness and knowing the difference. Testing the skill levels by constantly going up against the best competition will show your metal. Experience is the truest formula for taking your card playing qualities to a higher plateau. Practicing against people who already have these traits will teach those traits and flush out the rest.

All levels of play take instincts to get over he hump. The edge the pros have over the newbies is in trusting those gut feelings. Sharks must not fail to act when there is blood in the water. Hesitating will cost a big pot to slip on by. Being unsure of oneself will also lead to failure. Get into a hand with determination and play it out with confidence. Win or lose it is how to make an impression.

The waters can appear calm at any moment in a big round of cards. Players will show no fear or hesitation if they know that they can hold themselves in there with anyone. It pays to know what your skill level has become. Diving into the game with blinders on will get you eaten up in seconds. Broke and beaten, and with nothing to show for it. Be prepared and play with confidence.

Having gained the knowledge that comes with a little study, and a lot of time with cards in your hands, will prove the best test of where you fit in. Once this is known, it is just a matter of putting in enough hands to reach the top. Winning can mean making a ton of money, but it doesn't come easy. Taking a few knocks will give anyone the experience to rise above and eat up the competition.
