Tips On How To Win Blackjack

By Beryl Dalton

Blackjack, also known as twenty-one, is a popular card game that is played all over the world. It is among the most popular casino banking games worldwide. The game is played against the dealer. There is a lot to know about how to win blackjack.

This game is played with one or more decks of 52 cards. Players attempt to beat the dealer, which is possible in a few ways. Players will win if they received 21 points on their first two cards, which is a blackjack. They can also win by reaching a score that is more than that of a dealer but still less than the allotted 21. People might also win if they allow a dealer to draw extra cards until his or her hand goes above 21.

In the game, the player or players are given two cards initially. This is their first hand and the value of the cards should be added together. Face cards, which are jacks, queens and kings, are marked as 10 points. The player and dealer can count an ace as 11 points or 1 point. All other cards are counted based on their number. In any round, the player or dealer is able to win by scoring 21 points on their cards or having the highest number that is less than 21. Those who score higher than 21 lose.

There are varying rules in blackjack. Advantage players have seen this game as a target since back in the 1960s. Specifically, people who are considered card counters enjoy taking advantage of the game. They track the profile of cards dealt and strategize based on that. This activity is outlawed in many different casinos and recognized as a form of cheating. Still, there are people who do it on the down low.

Winning is mostly the result of change. However, every player still tends to favor a strategy that increases their chances for winning. Most study different strategies and apply them as they see fit. Various factors may determine how the game is played and if strategies are effective.

Players who are successful are often good at making decisions. After receiving the first two cards, players have four main options: hit, stand, double down or split. To hit means to take on another card, which will impact the total count. Those who choose to stand are saying no to more cards and are comfortable with the numbers they have pulled.

A person who doubles down can increase the initial bet by, in most cases, 100 percent. This comes in exchange for committing to stand after receiving just one more card. The added bet is placed in the betting box next to their original one.

There is also split decision where players can choose to split their two cards if they have the same value. This means that they move a second bet that is equal to their first to an area out of the betting box. Usually, this move is treated so that there are two independent hands that can lose or win separately. Some games will provide the option to surrender, which is essentially ending a hand and receiving half of the initial bet back.
