Choosing Poker Supplies is an Art!

By Jane Jeong

Poker is a great game, and you can play it with a deck of cards and a bag of bolts if you so desire. If you're going for something a bit more sophisticated however, it might be a good idea to visit an actual retailer. Buying from a site like Amazon could be useful, but if you're building a casino or a basement poker setup, you want everything to be authentic, and you want it to be aesthetically pleasing.

Poker Table

While you might not consider it to be a 'supply' per se, it really is! There are many different types and sizes of poker table and not all of them are permanent. As a matter of fact, some poker tables are actually capable of folding into three sections for easy storage or even travel. If you do not feel like purchasing a poker table, you can always buy a poker table creation kit. The table is where all of the action takes place, and is therefore one of the most important poker supplies.

The Chips

Poker supplies are expected to be used and abused, not sit around on the shelf and collect dust, which means you want chips that will last for years. Do not skimp when it comes to your poker chips! The good news is you will not have to as you can often find an excellent set for under $40. Once you locate some quality chips, your biggest decision will be whether you prefer a carousel or traditional chip case. Finally, poker chips come in a number of styles, most made to imitate popular casinos or locations. Choose a good set, but choose wisely!

Timers

You might not be planning to use it in your basement, but a tournament timer is always a good thing to have. You have your choice of timers online, so choose carefully, and get something to meet your needs.

Choosing Your Cards

As they say, let the cards fall where they may. It doesn't really matter what sort of deck you purchase so long as you're not using oversized carnival cards. That said, feel free to shop, and any deck you purchase will do -- as long as you only buy Hoyle.

Carrying Cabinet/Case

A carrying cabinet is the final important piece when it comes to your poker supplies. You need a sturdy case for your poker chips, cards and other supplies. These cases are made from a variety of materials, which include everything from wood to aluminum. This is the final piece of your poker puzzle and will leave you ready to travel with your game!

You have several decisions to make when putting together your poker supplies. Proper cards and poker chips are only the beginning. Putting together a fabulous set has never been easier, you can obtain it all at once or buy it a piece at a time. Poker is an inexpensive yet fun hobby!
