Scoring Free Drinks in Las Vegas Sports Books - 7 Tips

By Tommy Lorenzo

Free drinks while gambling in Vegas is a given at most casinos. However, scoring a free drink at the sports book nowadays has gotten a tad harder if you don't make the right moves and applying those moves makes getting free drinks at the sports book a breeze. Here are some helpful hint at getting all of the drinks you want while visiting the sports book in Vegas - for free.

BE CHARMING - Ticket writers are hard working folks. They are responsible for dealing with large sums of money while being ambassadors for their casino's sports book. While placing your bet, being friendly and polite at the ticket window goes a long way in securing free drink coupons regardless of what the "house" minimum is for getting drinks comped. So, be kind to the ticket writers and in most cases they'll be kind right back no matter what amount you are betting.

ASK - Some sports books go out of their way to offer free drink tickets, while others seem to want to keep it a secret. So, just ask! While some spots go the free-drink-ticket-route, other sports books still go on the honor system and simply offer free drinks if you are sitting in the space watching sports or horse racing. Either way, asking a sports book employee or manager about their free drink policy is totally acceptable.

NO FREE DRINKS AT CANTOR SPORTS BOOKS - Cantor operated sports books are well run and have some of the nicest looking sports books in Las Vegas. However, they do not provide free drinks. Some of the Cantor operated sports books in Las Vegas include, Palazzo, Venetian, Tropicana, Cosmopolitan, and The Hard Rock.

BET - At many spots, you don't have to lay the lumber and place a $500 football bet to get a free drink. A simple $5 sports parlay bet or a $1 horse racing bet will suffice. Cocktail servers can usually spot someone who is taking in the sports action without betting, however with a minimum horse racing bet being just $1 (many horse tracks offer a $1 pick 3 or a $1 exacta bet) it is pretty simple to have a betting ticket laying on the table for the cocktail server to see.

STUDY - There are dozens of sports books around Las Vegas and their free drink policies vary greatly. Before deciding where you will be spending valuable Las Vegas time watching sports, research which sports books have liberal free drink policies. There are several resources on the web, however only one website is dedicated strictly to Las Vegas sports books - The Vegas Parlay.

YOU GOTTA TIP! - In Vegas, money talks and tipping will certainly help when it comes to better service from the cocktail servers or getting free drink tickets from the ticket writers. I usually throw a few bucks at the ticket writers when I'm cashing a winning ticket - this almost always results in free drink tickets.

GO OFF THE BEATEN PATH - Many of the smaller and/or off-strip sports books tend to be more liberal with their comps. So, if you are staying at one of these locales, spending time at these sports books may work out just fine. Some off-strip spots that are customer friendly when it comes to free drinks are South Point, Gold Coast, and The LVH.

If you are on the strip, some sports books where free drinks and/or comp drink coupons are easy to come by include: Bellagio, Excalibur, Caesar's Palace, Wynn, and Mandalay Bay.
